Position Overview

As a Detail and Recon Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of both company and customer vehicles. Your tasks will include washing vehicles using high-pressure equipment, waxing with power tools, and ensuring all vehicle inventory on the dealership property is clean and presentable.

You will report directly to the Sales and Service Managers for work direction and instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Wash and wax cars and trucks promptly according to management requests.
  • Perform assigned duties efficiently and accurately in line with dealership standards.
  • Ensure all vehicle keys are properly tagged and match vehicle descriptions.
  • Inspect vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is needed and communicate findings to the sales manager or service advisor.
  • Supervise any apprentice technicians assigned to you.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop area and keep track of all dealership-owned tools.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local regulations regarding disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Never use customer vehicles for personal errands.

Working Environment

This role involves working both indoors and outdoors throughout all seasons. You may be exposed to dust, exhaust fumes, and other materials. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and using hand and power tools. A dealership uniform is required.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as a detail technician is preferred but not required; training provided.
  • Ability to read and understand job-related instructions, whether electronic or paper-based.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and a strong attention to detail.
  • Good judgment in performing tasks and reporting additional vehicle needs.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Typically a 40-hour, five-day workweek with occasional overtime and rotational Saturday shifts.
  • Schedules may vary and be coordinated by management.
  • Work involves exposure to dust, fumes, and various materials in a moist environment.
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent stooping, kneeling, and use of tools.
  • Uniform must be worn at all times during shifts.
